whereupon

Hi,

"I had to rouse her myself. But by then it was already past the time when she normally leaves home. You can rest assured that whereupon she did not tarry and hastened away to school."

Is the usage of 'whereupon' acceptable in the above example?

Thanks

SuperESL Is the usage of 'whereupon' acceptable in the above example? No; in all the instances I have seen, 'whereupon' (an older word) follows a semicolon or equivalent. I don't see the need for it, actually: I had to rouse her mysel f, but by then it was already past the time when she normally leaves home.
