Number 4 is not English. Number 6 is non-standard. Number 3 is stilted. The rest are OK. Number 5 is best.

I beleive all are gramatically correct, some are more common/used than others, though, with 1 being the more frequent one and 4 the least used.

I think that's a fair statement.

Now that you mention it, I guess so. I am merely reporting what a native speaker's ear tells him, but your explanations seem to be correct.

Number 3 is still stilted. It sounds like the person revised his sentence to avoid ending it with a preposition, making it self-conscious. Number 6 is now perfectly fine, which fact I think proves that "place" is the culprit in your other examples.
