"Where" vs. "in which"
Hi,
This is a case where "affect" is used incorrectly.
I instinctively use "where" in this construction.
But I keep coming across postings in which students claim they have been taught never to use "where" like this.
So on proofreading, of late, I often "correct" my error.
How egregious is this "error"?
I'm thinking that in scientific formulas, the usage is legendary:
Newton's Second Law Of Motion may be expressed as "F=MA," where "F" is the applied force etc.
It seems very unnatural to substitute "in which" here.
