Bears and lions live in dens.

Owls live in lots of places, not just barns. Some live in barns and other buildings, some live in nests in trees, some live in special owl boxes (nesting boxes designed for them). You can't state that all owls live in barns - or anywhere really. There isn't a single word for it like 'den'. Actually, I'd choose nest, as
