Where or which is

I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know which of the following word or word phrase is in line with the sentence. In addition, is it feasible to just write "a colder place far away from ..."?

Apart from that, I must admit that the thought of being a colder place where / which is far away from the tropical countries also appeals to me.

dileepa Apart from that, I must admit that the thought of being in a colder place where / ( which is ) far away from the tropical countries also appeals to me. 'where' doesn't work. 'which is' is OK, and it's optional.
