Where is this word located in?

Hi teachers,

Excerpts:

If you'd look up, there's a crazy word engraved right there in the wood below the dais where the speaker sits. It says TOLERANCE.

I understand dias is like the pulpit, but where is this word located?

Thank you.

tinanam0102 where is this word located? "in the wood below the dais". Which part of that don't you understand?

  • tinanam0102 where is this word located?
  • "in the wood below the dais".
  • Which part of that don't you understand?
  • It's vague, but apparently there is some wood below the dais and someone has carved the word TOLERANCE into this wood with a knife or some kind of tool of that nature.
  • I don't think we can get more specific than that.

Hi CalifJim,

"...where the speaker sits"

A dais is supposed to be like a pulpit, and the speaker would have to stand behind the dais to give a speech, his or her lower body partially would not be seen if the front part of wood facing the audience is big.

I don't understand why the sentence said "sits", and what does "where....." modify? The wood or the dais?
