"where is it"VS"where are they"

Hi.I was reading the book "The glory and the dream" the other day and found that the title is from Wordsworth's poem"where is it now, the glory and the dream?" I am wondering why he uses "is it" instead of "are they" here.

Anonymous I am wondering why he uses "is it" instead of "are they" here. The writer conceptualizes "the glory and the dream" as one unified entity. Another writer might write "are they".
