Where in North America do they say "new" as "noo"?

I'd like to know where in North America do people say word new as "noo" instead of "nyoo"? And where do they say word stupid "stoopid" instead of "styoopid".

I've heard "nyoo" only from old people who have studied diction in the past and are now radio and TV "nyooz" announcers. I agree that there are regional differences, but they seem to be getting filtered out as the world grows smaller. After growing up in "Noo Hampshah" I visited my parents in western Pennsylvania in the 60's, and we went to church.

  • The choir kept singing "neeooo," and it made me want to scream.
