Vocabulary

where I live

I'd like to know if you can omit words "in a place" before "where I live". I've read a conversation between a boy and his grandfather;
A) Did you use to hang out at the mall with your friends?
B) They didn't have shopping malls where I lived.
Does the usage " where I lived" sound ok to you?
And if so, it means that you can omit a phrase like " in a place" before "where I lived"?
Thank you very much.
