Where had he gone? What kind of, which, and how many? Like that.

The protagonist is one of Amber's princes. He just knew his farther is living somewhere, every body thinks, has been dead long.

He still lived, somewhere, and he was king in Amber, Why had he left
Where had he gone? What kind of, which, and how many? Like that.

I'd like to know what "what kind of, which, and how many?" means.
And I'd like to know what "Like that" means here.

The only thing I can think of is that those questions are being asked this way to indicate that there is very little information about

I think you mean 'He just learned , , , ', ie 'He very recently learned . . . '
