Where do you think my bag is?

Hi, I know which answer is correct, however, I do not know why one can be used over the other? Can someone explain or tell me the rule? Thank you.

A: Where do you think my bag is?
B: Where do you think is my bag?

What grammar tense or name would it be called, and what rules apply?

As 1 know, "do you think" here is a parenthesis, which can be ignored. where do you think is my bag? > where is my bag?

  • As 1 know, "do you think" here is a parenthesis, which can be ignored.
  • where do you think is my bag?
  • > where is my bag?
  • So B is correct

Sorry for my mistake.

when "do you think" is added into a interrogative sentence, the order of the sentence must be changed to statement sentence
eg. what can i do? when "do you think " added, the sentence should be what do you think I can do.

how about when I write: What do you think is the most important thing about friendship?
because I can also write: what do you think the most important thing about friendship is? and that is also write. What's the difference between this sentence and "what do you think I can do"

how about when I write: What do you think is the most important thing about friendship?

-------in the above sentence, "what" is the subject, important thing is object, so its no need to change the order of the senece
because I can also write: what do you think the most important thing about friendship is?
--------While in this sentence, the subject is the most import
