Where did my pound go?

I borrowed £50 off my mum and £50 off my dad. I bought I t-shirt for £97 and got £3 change. I gave my mum and dad £1 each so I only owed them £49 each. In total I owed £98 I added the £1 I had left over to make £99 where did the extra £1 go?

Is this a puzzle? What you owe has nothing to do with what cash you have left and there is no reason the two should add up to the original amount borrowed. As is clear: If you borrowed $50 from your mom and $50 from your dad, spent $75 of it, and returned $24, all but a dollar of your change, then: You would still have a dollar in your pocket and you would still owe $76 dollars.
