Where are you from? vs Where do you come from? Is there a meaning difference between them? I think they are interchangeable for the same meaning I agree. and they are asking about countries. not necessarily countries

where do you come from" could comically mean - "in outer space ??

Where are you from?" is a general question about origin, heritage or nationality; where as, "Where do you come from?" is more specific used for geographic locations, city, specific address etc.
