"Where are you from?"

When someone asks me, "Where are you from?", should I say my country or my city or both or either one is fine? What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much in advance.

It depends who asks you. At a meeting of area Scouts delegates, say your town/city. In a holiday resort where the questioner has a foreign accent, say your country.
