When/while she was sick

Hi

Is "the second one focuses a bit more on the fact that she watched a lot of TV throughout the whole period of her illness" the difference between #1 and #2?

1- Kate watched TV a lot when she was sick last year.

2- Kate watched TV a lot while she was sick last year.

I don't hear any difference between those. To me they have the same meaning.
