When's it published?

Anna: I liked your book. When's it published?
Dan: Next year. How come you've read it?
Anna: Your publisher sent me a manuscript. I read it last night. It kept me up till four.
[From the movie "Closer"]
I think "When's it published?" is written in the tense simplification.
If so, I'd like to know if I can write interrogative sentence in the tense simplification.
