When/may and test limitis

Could you help me with this please?

1 She went in to kiss him when he yawned/when he was yawning.
2 When she went in to kiss him, he was yawning/he yawned.
Which would you say, are both oK?

3 I might/may live in a bad distrinct but at least I live on my own.

4 Surviver is a show on which contests are on an island to test their limits and only one will be the last standing. (is LImits the word?)

Thanks
