When your foot hits the foot of a table

Hi

What would be the typical verb when we hit/strike our (bare) foot against the foot of a table or sofa, etc and experience a great deal of pain? Sometimes the hitting is so severe that a nail breaks or simply comes off. If translated from my language, it would be stumble.

She stumbled on a sofa foot and broke her nail.

Thanks,

Tom
