when you get to/come to know him

He looks shy, but actually, when you get to/come to know him, he is very funny and easygoing.

Do get to and come to in the above sample convey a similar idea? Thanks.

Hi,

They convey similar idea. However, I feel come is more active than get . Come shows more desire; get is neutral (i.e., weaker).

AngliholicBy the say, is Hoa Thai your real name? It sounds very Asian. For curiosity's sake, would you break something on it to me?

I am curious. Why do you ask?

I am not a native English speaker. I've taught Vietnamese to foreigners for many years in Saigon.
