When vs If (please answer quickly)

I came across this youtube video: "If I die in this video game, the game ends."

This title has been really bugging me. I researched that "if" is used to introduce situations that are only possible, not guaranteed, while "when" is used to introduce situations that are guaranteed. Shouldn't this be "WHEN" then as it is certain that the person will die in the game?
