When to use " of " ?

What is the difference between : Cambridge University and University of Cambridge ? So when to use "of" and when not to use it ?

When it is the name of a university, you have absolutely no choice. You must use the official name of the university.

In other, more ordinary cases, the forms with 'of' tend to be used with more abstract ideas and in special grammatical formulas.
