When to Send Christmas or New Year Greetings

I have several good friends in the United States. If I want to send my Christmas or New Year greetings to them, which will be the best way?

To give them a call or send an e-mail? If a phone call is better, when would be the best time? Morning of Dec 24, or afternoon or evening? Or December 25?

Many people send holiday greeting cards that arrive any time from the first of December to just after New Year's. Most people I known talk to family on Christmas day (the 25th) but don't really enjoy chats with others. Many people attend church services on the afternoon or evening of the 24th.

  • Many people won't be checking their e-mail on the 24th or 25th, with Christmas preparations in full swing.
  • An e-mail on the 23rd would be nice.

Thank you. I did not realize that people would go to church on Dec 24. From what I saw in the American TV series, people are just busy shopping and preparing for family gettogether or parties.

Yes, many, many people do go to church. Even people who don't go to church most Sundays tend to go on Christmas Eve and Easter.

(Please don't form too many opnions about American culture based on TV shows. The depict us at our worst - most stupid, most ****-crazed, most aggressive, most ... whatever.)

Thanks for the reminder.

Yes, from the TV shows I saw:
Almost everyone has committed some crime
Almost everyone is very selfish
People are either very stupid or very sophisticated
You can trust no one, as everyone is up to something, the police and FBI are no exception
The U.S. is a very dangerous country, and you can be killed anywhere at any time by any one

On the other hand, television shows about people who get up, get their kids (who don't dress like prostitutes, do drugs, or have beer/*** orgies at their homes while their parents are out) ready for school, go to work without finding any dead bodies or plotting how to overthrow the company, go out to lunch to get a sandwhich and run to the post office, pick up their kids, make dinner, oversee thei

I forgot to tell you something.

I gave my friend (my former team leader in the project) a call in the afternoon of Dec 23 (US time), and he was very happy to receive my call. And he did mention that he would go to church with some friends on Dec 24.

Thank you for the information you provided.
