When to negate like this?

Indeed he is my lord and knows not what he does.
I thought in British English verbs are negated with not after the base form but i saw in many British English books that verbs are negated with do and sometimes with not.Can you explain how verbs are negated in British English?
Thanks

Hi, Indeed he is my lord and knows not what he does. Can you explain how verbs are negated in British English? He knows not is archaic, as is often the case with English in the Bible.
