When to add -ing?

Is this sentence right: It was the 2nd time seeing my buddy crying.

Is the word 'crying' correct? Or should it be 'cry'? Why? Thanks

Since you already have an -ing (seeing), it's probably better not to have another -ing. I'd use seeing ... cry.
