When should I use "the other" ??

Here is an example.

?There are many colors in a rainbow. One is red. Another is Orange. Another is Yellow…………The other one is purple.?

but one of my teacher said that I shouldn't say "The other one is purple"....because "the other" only can use in a specific description....in this example....it doesn't mention how many color are there in a rainbow...if the first sentence change to "There are seven colors in a rainbow."...then I can said "The other one is purple. "....is my teacher correct ?? thanks in advance!!!!
