When should I place commas in these kind of sentences?

Hello!

I'm not sure how to use these structures correctly. Should there be commas when I use them at the beginning of the sentence, or does it depend on the type of clause that is dealt with? What are these structures called? I think it's gerund, but nothing I have found seems to be similar to them.

Here are the sentences:

_Hissing, the cat approached the table._
(Should there be a comma after "hissing"?)

_Getting up from the ground, the man ran into the forest._
(Should there be a comma after "ground"?)

Does it also depend on the length of the sentence?
