When + past participle or when + present participle

Is it correct to use "when + participle" in a sentence?

For instance,

I got an error when clicked the OK button.

vs

I got an error when clicking the OK button.

#1 implies the error is received after the clicking action is complete.

#2 implies the error is received during the clicking action.

Am I correct? I am sure #2 is absolutely correct, but am confused about #2.

Thanks,

Harry

It's correct if you include the subject. Otherwise, it is not.

Yes, but the present participle has to have active force, and the past participle has to have passive force.

When clicking that button, you get an error.
When clicked, that button gives you an error.
