When I was a boy, I was studying music

Which would be possible in the blank?

When I was a boy, I ____ music
(a) study
(b) studied
(c) was studying
(d) had been studying

I think (a) is no good and (b) would be all right.
How about the others? Would they be possible?

Thanks in advance.

hirashin (b) would be all right. There is only one good answer. The others are possible, in a more complex sentence: When I was a boy, I had been studying music before my hands were crushed in a bad bicycle accident.
