'When I am grown up..." "When I grow up..."

Are there any differences between 'when I am grown up' and 'when I grow up' ? I think the first one sounds a bit weird but then I have seen this elsewhere.

I would say "When I have grown up ..."

2 sentences are acceptable the former used as an adjective whereas the latter as a verb.
