When does "excited" mean "want"?

As we know that I am excited to hear the news( I am excited about hearing the news/ I want to hear the news) here "excited" means "want" according to me whad do you say?
Now tell me where I am wrong. Please get me correct If I am wrong below.

a. I am excited to hear the news. (I am excited about hearing the news/ I want to hear the news)

b. I was excited to hear the news. (I heard the news and I excited at it/When I heard the news, I was excied/I was excited because I heard the news. This is a simultaneous event)

c. I was excited to hear from him after all those years.( I wanted to hear/ I wished to hear from him)

2. The speaker is excited in anticipation of hearing the news (i.e. has not yet heard the news but expects to do so in the near future).
