When do we always use the simple present tense?

I understand if we say something that happens regularly we use the simple present tense. The same applies to theories that are generally accepted as true.

Nevetheless, I notice something refers to the Christianity, such as the Stations of the Cross and so on, they are all written in simple present tense. Isn't it meant to be facts that actually happened in the past?

OK. I see what you mean. This is called "the historical present". In this style of writing (and note, it's a matter of style, not of grammar), we use the simple present to record historical facts in order to make them more vivid in the mind of the reader. It makes the reader think that the events are taking place in the present.
