When corporations dominate the conversations ...

Hi

When corporations dominate the conversations, the truth is often treated like a necessary casualty in pursuit of the bottom line. One example is the meat industry, which has been working overtime for decades, trying to convince people that we need meat to get enough protein.

I'm not sure what the author wanted to say in the 1st sentence. Maybe "when corporations are too powerful then to reach their goals/(in pursuit of money), they treat the truth like a necessary casualty"?

But what does it actually mean that they "dominate the conversations"? To me it sounds like "when they have too much to say" or something like this. Above I wrote "when they're too powerful", but it was just my guess.
