Hello, guys! I would like to know if I can always replace "others" by "other ones" and If I can't, I would like to know the restrictions.
I will create some sentences on my own now:
1) Some people like blue, while others like pink.
[Could I use "other ones" here?, it does not sound very natural]
2) Did you like the selection of authors that I chose to talk about?
Honestly, I prefer the other ones that you didn't mention on your lecture, but we talked about before.
[I feel "other ones" fit very well in this sentence. Would you use "others" in this sentence?
That's it, I learned that I can use "one" and "ones" to substitute nouns, but there are some sentences that simply sound better without "ones", just like the first example that I provided.
Thank you!
] No. 'One/s' is a pronoun which must refer to a contextual noun. This is fine: Some people like the colour blue, while other ones like pink .
