When /As I was a baby...

I think that I asked a question about usage of 'when' VS. 'as' before, but I cannot find it. It must have been erased because of system errors before and I am still confused with the usage and forgot the answers, so could you help me out again. My question is that 'when' is never used for the same meaning of "as"? I have heard that 'as' and 'while' are interchangeable for the same meaning sometimes but I am not sure if 'when' is also used and interchangeable with 'as' without meaning change? Do you also agree that 'as' means the same as 'while' often? What do you native English speakers think?

ex) When / As I was a baby...

Or are there any good examples of yours?

Thank you so much as usual in advance.

  • That is not an example with 'while', and it does not work.

That is not an example with 'while', and it does not work. I am not clear on what you hope to find.

In your example, "when" refers to a past time frame for a statement, "as" gives a reason for a statement.

When is not a replacement for as.

Thank you both so much and I feel like sometimes 'as' can be used for the same meaning as 'when' because 'as' also has a meaning of 'at the same time' or 'as' is never used instead of 'when'?

Try completing the sentence, and we will see if it is a natural one.
Both clauses are common.
