Essay & Composition Writing

When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign that the dunces are all in confederacy against him (Jonathan Swift). Do you agree or disagree with the statetment that the genius is never understood in his own time? Give...

In the past many talented people were deemed unwanted. They felt alien and distant to their peers. Perceived as different they were denied affection. Talent and above average intelligence tend to drive people away because of the common belief that they go hand in hand with superiority complex and inflated ego. I do agree that the genius is never understood. Not because their work is far beyond the average capacity but rather because the average person puts little to no effort into understanding thing beyond their established beliefs and worldview.

For example, nowadays Van Gogh is regarded as one of the greatest painters of all time. However, that was not the case when he was alive. The artist behind famous paintings like ‘Starry nigth’ and ‘Sunflowers’ did ot sell a single canvas in his lifetime. He was an eccentric man with pioneering drawing techniques but none of his peers were ready nor willing to see the beauty of his work, so that great man died with the conviction his artwork was worthless.

Another great man in history – Leonardo Da Vinci was behind the sketch of the first ever flying machine and created the draft of the parachute. Hardly though did anyone know or care about his inventions. ‘Mona Lisa’ and ‘The Last Supper’ do not by far encompass the genius of Da Vinci but people deemed them sufficent to characterize him and neglect the rest of the aspects of his talent.

In conclusion, we all struggle to find our place in the world and I’ll go as far as to say our time. It’s even harder for people who do not fit the frame of the average man. Being gifted is both a blessing and a curse. These extraordinary minds are bound to be misunderstood or even rejected alltogether. But they have the power to change the world and make history for the next generations to tell.
