When a new tool is installed...

Hi

What's the term for when we install a new tool in some machine (car, etc) and say it will be OK after a while-- after it is used for some time?

A- It's making a weird sound.

B- Yes, the new plug needs ....

What about running?

Say a new part, not a new tool.

We used to talk about running in a new car, ie driving it a bit slowly for a while after we buy it.

We don't do that for cars anymore, but I don't see why we couldn't talk ab
