When

The day when we met.

Is "when" a conjunction and adverb at the same time in the above?

Is "when we met" an appositive clause and "when" a relative adverb in the cited sentence?

If I were writing that sentence, I would delete "when." It's not wrong, but it is unnecessary. For conversation, it's fine.

Anonymousrelative adverb
This would be my first choice for a descriptive term. As already mentioned, however, we drop "when" most of the time, and note also that "that" can be used instead of "when".

It's almost a fixed expression: the day they left; the day we met; the day the baby began to talk; the day we got lost; the day the market crashed;
