Hello,

1. When I was reading a book , the phone rang.

2. I was reading a book, when the phone rang.

Which one is correct?

Do we use Past continuous with "when" and the simple past?

Actually I want to know in the case such I have mentioned which contains two clauses, one past continuous and another simple past, the"when clause should be in simple past".
