What/Which are your favourite bands?

Hi

The title says it all. Which alternative is the correct one? If both, what's the difference?
It seems to me(Does this phrase sound naturally to a native speaker?) as if "what are.." was a question about kinds of bands, and "which are..." was a question about some specific bands.

But I'm probably mistaken.

Thanks in advance.

Both are fine. 'What' suggests that you will get a longer list or that the selection is coming from a longer list is bands. 'Which' suggests that the answer will be the names of only 2 or 3 bands.
