What's/are the differences between these words?

What are the significant differences between the words "smother", "choke", "suffocate" and "stifle"?

To the best of my knowledge, "smother" is simply to strangle somebody to death using a rope or other stuff like a piece of fabric, and to choke somebody to death is almost exactly the same. But I don't know but the difference/s between the rest of the words here.

I could be wrong with my opinions BTW.
