What's your name?

Hello,

In the question; 'what is your name?' does the word name refer to one's both first name and surname or does it refer to only either of them?

Thanks

Hi,

It depends on whether one wishes to tell the full name or not.

You can say the first name only or say both first name and surname.

I'd say that it's not defined, and both answers are likely to be said in a casual conversation.

Usually, people tend to tell their full name if it's their first meeting.
