What's wrong with this sentence?

Is there anything wrong with the underlined part of the sentence?

1. An early story by Roman historian August Callus was telling of glass that formed under cooking pots when soldiers heated their meals over fires set in sandy soils. (My book says there's something wrong with the underlined part but I can't figure out what's wrong with it.)

Thanks.
