what's up?

Hi,

I am not really sure what does what's up mean? Sometimes i don't know how to answer this question? does people ask us this usually just mean "hi"? Or, they really want to know "what is new?" or what am i doing right now?

Could i answer back by saying," as usual".
thanks

' or 'What are you doing?. Answering 'As usual' is OK, I suppose, but you might want to be a little more forthcoming with a bit of information.

Yes, sometimes it can just mean 'Hi', but more often it means the same as 'What's new?' or 'What are you doing?. Answering 'As usual' is OK, I suppose, but you might want to be a little more forthcoming with a bit of information.
