What's up

Hi
What is the most popular greeting in english? I dont mean 'Hi', 'hey', 'hello' but the greeting when you asking someone how he feels. 'How are you' and 'how do you do' seem to me rather dated now but maybe I am wrong? I want to ask you for "what's up" because I heard that its to popular and became annoying? So how I should greet my young friend to not sound like an idiot or square?
Thanks Emotion: smile

" still works (drop the final "g" in "going", so it sounds like "gowinn". Obviously young people have their own greetings, but they usually hate it when adults try to appear cool by using them. Actually, your friend might like it if you greeted him in your language first!
