What's the word that means ...

a phrase/series of words that repeats in your head over and over again - the kind that you can't get rid of for a while ...

For example: I watched a movie called "Police Academy" (but can't remember which series: I, II, or III) however, there was one scene where there were protesters saying "*** no, we won't go!" - that phrase kept repeating in my head for a few days.

I know there is a word for it - I saw it a while ago but for the life of me, I cannot find it or figure out. I have asked quite a few intelligent people including one with good knowledge of English - she asked around as well - couldn't get it.

I am hoping someone could help me.

TIA!

Hi Brenda, welcome to the forums, It's kind of strange, I saw the same post with some answers yesterday. "Mantra" and "refrain" were the suggestions made by the members. And "stick in one's mind" and another expression with the same meaning that I don't remember.

Thanks -- that was me in the other post ... I used anonymous and decided to join the forum. There was a formal word kind of along the same family as paliadrome (sp). It was a word I have never heard of and not used much.

However, I do like the obsession one ... that's a good one.
