What's the word?

to describe the act of putting a cup or other objects around a crawling insect so that they cannot escape.

I was thinking of to trap, but I wasn't sure if that's the best usage.

Hurry and ___ the spider with a cup!

"Trap" will work just fine.

When I hear trap, I think of to set a trap. My inclination here would be to use capture.

"Trap" is more colloquial, and in this context I think it is appropriate. "Capture" is not how you'd say this if you were scared of a spider and wanted it kept away from you.

Hurry, trap that spider! is, to me, preferred over Hurry, capture that spider!
