What's the Verb?

Dear Everyone,

What's the verb which refers to what we do with surplus energy if we'd like to get rid of it?

(I mean it for people, like when an aggressive person does some sport, but also for cases when someone has tremendous capacity and need for caring for others, for instance, and so takes on a lot of such work.)

Could you, please, let me know it? Thank you!

Hi In the first case, an idiomatic phrase is "burn it off".. "I've just eaten a five-course meal - tomorrow I must go running and burn it off" The second question is interesting. I can't think of the phrase you need Connected with this, however, is the phrase "compassion fatigue".

Hi again

There is also the idiomatic expression "is an outlet for"

Fred goes to the local drama club - it's an outlet for his creative side

But I would feel uneasy about using this with caring..

Fred visits the old people at the residential home on Sundays - it's an outlet for his caring side

I'm not sure that "caring" can be thought of in this way..
