What's the slight difference between case and instance?

What's the slight difference between case and instance?

I had been sorting the usages of the two words for some time, now trying to find out the slight difference between them.

Is this correct: I can say "You are an instance of crazy people" but not "You are a case of crazy people".

I will appreciate if an explanation on this could be given.
