What's the meaning of " the odds"?

It's May, the season when millions of college students are scrambling to find a way to pay next year's tuition. Most will borrow, and the odds are good those loans will come from (a company called) Sallie Mae.


In the above passage, I think the meaning of " the odds" is some people.

I checked the dictionaries, but I can't find the the same explanation as I thought.

So could you tell me the correct meaning or the "the odds are good"

When the odds are good, like I said above, it means it's very likely that something will happen.

Odds are like probability. Good odds means it will probably happen. If you say "the odds are bad" it means it probably won't happen.
