What's the meaning of account in this sentence?

The Publishers will account for each Licensed Edition individually against an advance of US$ 3,000 per
Licensed Edition.

Top answer

To account for something is to give an explanation or reason for it. I have no idea how that applies to licensed editions. Maybe the publishers are just keeping a record of them.
